Position Summary

As a member of the Finance team reporting to the Director of Financial Planning & Analysis (FP&A), the Finance Associate will partner closely with other Finance professionals across the company, THERMA’s business leaders as well as our investor, Blackstone.

The Finance Associate will assist with managing the end-to-end Financial Planning & Analysis cycles that will benchmark progress, drive investment and support executive decisions.

The candidate will work within the team to help design, implement and improve best practices for the FP&A function.   The importance of this role stems from the impetus to assist the executive team and make smart business decisions as more complexity is brought to THERMA by existing and future acquisitions.

Among its key responsibilities are long range planning, annual budgeting, quarterly forecasting and valuations cycle, monthly analytics, Board material preparation, and a large spectrum of projects, including operations and financial modeling, cost efficacy and investment planning, M&A integration, ERP and Business Intelligence system deployments.

 

Specific Areas of Ownership

  • Planning – Develop driver-based annual budgets and rolling quarterly forecasts. Monitor backlog revenue and amortization by project. Assess and quantify velocity of pipeline to backlog conversion. Model revenue and margin risk & opportunities across project portfolio to develop fair and balanced budgets. Help prioritize investment proposals spanning Capex, headcounts, professional services and IT.
  • Rolling Forecast – Leverage annual budget planning framework to develop forecasts by business unit with a view consolidating four-quarter rolling forecasts by the second month of each quarter (3 + 9 months in MAY 6 + 6 months in AUG and 9 + 3 months in OCT in preparation for the annual budget due in DEC). Run Risk and Opportunities sensitivity to drive resource allocation and build confidence around tight forecast ranges spanning Revenue, Gross Margin, EBITDA and Cash Flow.
  • Monthly Performance – Quantify most significant sources of budget and forecast variances as well as sequential and year over year growth drivers. Measure financial momentum against performance targets in each business unit. Maintain company-wide KPI dashboards and steer monthly analytical process to assess operational and financial performance, including productivity, EBITDA margin scalability, Cash Margin conversion and Return on Invested Capital (ROIC.) Review expense projections and provide recommendations regarding cost reduction as well as opportunities to redeploy resources across projects and departments.
  • Predictive Analytics – Segment project portfolios in each business unit along leading  indicators including Labor efficiency, Labor Crew Mix, Material Cost mark up, Scope changes and Project Execution velocity since inception as well as Change Order opportunities. Distill insights and critical findings into performance scorecards and corrective action plan proposals. Develop Customer Lifetime Value (CLV) framework to pinpoint the most attractive markets and help business units maximize profitable growth opportunities.
  • Indebtedness – Monitor forward-looking borrowing capacity, liquidity position and covenant ratio forecasts.
  • Cash Flow Forecast – Prepare Indirect rolling Cash Flow forecast and triangulate projected cash position against 13-week Direct Cash Flow projections. Continuously update cash plan to optimize liquidity, rein in Revolver funding requirement and minimize interest charges.
  • Board of Directors – Assist in the preparation of material for Monthly Reviews and Quarterly Board of Directors’ meetings. Develop effective internal reporting cycles to support Board’s strategic oversight, fiduciary and governance duties.
  • Communication with Lenders – Establish an effective reporting methodology for THERMA’s Lenders including US GAAP, Financials, Covenant Ratios, MD&A and Annual Excess Cash Flow. Assist with preparation of quarterly update calls and Q&A with Lenders.
  • Steer Long range Performance – Measure Revenue growth, margin expansion and cash conversion against long range performance targets and publicly traded company benchmarks. Assess improvement opportunities across the THERMA portfolio. Measure Return on Invested Capital and Economic Value Creation in each business unit.
  • M&A Integration – Develop a financial integration playbook to ensure smooth onboarding and consolidation of newly acquired companies across FP&A cycles including Cash Forecasts, Quarterly forecasts, Monthly Analytics and Performance Measurement.
  • System Deployment – Participate in specification, testing and deployment of Business Intelligence systems (Solver and Qlik). Support Director of FP&A in deployment and maintenance of data architecture, including hierarchy of KPIs, and help optimize workflow to share best practices company-wide.

TECHNICAL: US GAAP, Federal, State & Local Tax, Labor Laws, working knowledge of ERP/MRP and Financial Systems.

AGILE: Hands-on with ability to shift back and forth from self-reliance and personal accountability to cross-group collaboration while making others successful along the way. Capable of operating in a multi-site and matrixed environment. Adaptable and willing to adjust style to audience, learn and grow with the company.

 

Desired Qualifications

  • 2 to 4 years of progressive experience in Finance & Accounting (Investment Banking / Equity Research, Private Equity, Corporate FP&A, US GAAP and Financial reporting.)
  • BS in Finance and/or Accounting or related field.
  • MBA with a focus in Finance, or related field, considered a plus.
  • Manufacturing or manufacturing related services a plus.
  • Strong financial systems experience, MRP/ERP data mining and database management. Experience in system deployment considered a plus.
  • Statistical & quantitative analysis including “what if modeling” and scenario planning. Advanced practice of Microsoft Excel a must.
